this album is one of those so bad and amateurish it's actually extremely charming and good for those factors

Very nice album, very chill. The lyrics are pretty undecipherable, but that kind of adds to the charm.

Under-rated, spiritual collection, great work considering Bono basically had to improvise the lyrics during their studio time.

From a purely emotional basis, this album can only be matched by the Unforgettable Fire. Bono Vox is ripping his heart and soul out and putting it on display on everyone one of these songs.

Yeah, the lyrics were finally recovered a few years back in someone's attic: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/3945519.stm

I'm with Kittichan on this one. You can hear Bono getting off his pedestal at the dressing room mirror (admiring himself) on all of these songs...the lyrics of which were stolen or lost, just as they went in to record it. Add to that the band's not being sure at that particular moment in time whether to continue on (mind-boggling in retrospect!)...and you get inspired, un-self-conscious angst.
