This album sounds ridiculously fresh in 2022 as opposed to when it first came out, lol

I'm finally revisiting this album after what I think it's more or less a decade. I remember that my very first impression was of an "updated Metallica" sound (same with the stuff that Shadows Fall was releasing around those days). Matt's vocals sound A LOT like Hetfield especially on this album, and while the record itself doesn't sound impressive to me as it sounded back then, it's undoubtedly quite good and solid.

+1 nice analysis. additionally, i remember, back in these days there was a weired (re)definition of metalcore going on with its peak in the middle of the 00s. everything was everything and was nothing. for myself trivium got an image problem after this success, but my so-called metalcore phase ended to early to notice it. ^^

What a masterpiece. Every single song on this album is fucking epic! Juicy riffs, amazing songwriting, hearful vocals, superb drum work. Trivium at its best.

Lembro da época quando o último álbum do Trivium era o In Waves que ouvi muito que The Crusade era o pior álbum deles. Ouvindo os últimos 3 álbuns, The Crusade se torna uma obra-prima...

Not my favorite Trivium album but a very good one nonetheless. Probably their second best album in my opinion. The production is a bit ... flat, though. It's very plastic-sounding and way too compressed, which bugs me a lot.

What I hate on the most people on this site that they are copying someones comment again and over again without fucking end [4]

Holy fucking shit, the intro for Contempt Breeds Contamination sounds like an Allegaeon riff... this is even more criminally underrated than I thought!

I really don't know why people hate on The Crusade. They barely scream on this album but the cleans are awesome. The instrumentation is a great improvement from Ascendancy and some of their lead guitar work. The riffs are epic, the drumming is just as good, there is an awesome bass solo and Matt's vocals don't disappoint and are complicated with great lyrics. It's different from their previous work but still good. This album sounds more a lot more thrashy than their other albums. [2] Totally agree. For me it's one of their best, maybe cause i just prefere more "thrash" side of Trivium than emo core :P. Anyway this one is my fav together with Shogun.

Gonna take on the bold stance that this has Trivium's best lead guitar work...plus the bass solos in the title track and Becoming the Dragon kick ass. The lyrics and vocals could have been refined for sure, shame it was rushed...could have potentially surpassed Shogun. [2] Totally agree.

Dubbing a few of these songs as "news metal" because of how the lyrics read more like news reports...think And Sadness Will Sear, Contempt Breeds Contamination and Unrepentant

A worship, or tribute to traditional heavy metal. Other metalcore bands make covers of heavy metal artists, Trivium create their own heavy metal album :)

too much Metallica worship on this album, the other albums have a more original feel to them, that's why i like the other albums way more

Well I personally find it hard to be objective if it comes to this album as it is the first I've heard from them and I found it really great. Well it's no Shogun but it's still a great album to which I like to come back from time to time

Seriously, this has similar techniques as Metallica but it doesn't sound LIKE Metallica. It shows more Metallica inspiration but there is not a hope in hell that Metallica will make anything LIKE this. This is Trivium.

I think this may be my fave. Trivium album. Probably 'cause my first Metal gig was The Crusade Tour. But it has some fab songs, and they could nail these ones live no problem. I can't understand why the band always talk it down and never play ANY songs from it live anymore. They sold out venues all over the place with this album. And although Ascendancy sold more copies, this one made in into the TOP TEN UK albums charts. Hardly a bad album by any stretch! lol
