Little Earthquakes has no skips, but I often skip this — simply because it is so unsettling. I feel badly doing it, because ultimately she wrote this song (& performed a capella) for a good reason. It's easily one of the most powerful songs written in the 20th century. But that much power is hard to stomach sometimes, knowing the subject matter. You have to commend her for being so raw & truthful about her experiences that it makes many people turn away — it is an honesty you cannot find in most people, both their art & their day-to-day life. I do try to sit through it if I am listening to LE in full out of respect, but it is sincerely hard. The work she has done for victims is inspiring & beautiful, & we are all fortunate to witness her having turned her horrible experience into something materially & emotionally useful for other victims. Not everyone can do something like that.

Painful but absolutely gorgeous at the same time. This song is beyond words. [3] I'm in tears.

I thank Tori from the bottom of my heart for writing this and demanding it be heard, but I simply cannot listen to it. It’s far too raw and unsettling. It will ruin my entire day if I listen to it start to finish. I’ve maybe listened to it a handful of times. A true testament to artistry, being able to take your pain and make others (some like myself that have never experienced the subject matter) feel that pain.

It hurts more than anything else and I know I'm not the only one that can relate. But we haven't seen Barbados, so we must get out of this. :(

Assault is part of my history, but for me this song is the story of my mental illness trying to ravage me every day. Every day I tell myself I haven't seen Barbados. I must get out of this.

This is too much for me to listen to, much as I regret, I skip it almost everytime.

This is the only song I've ever listened to that has left me feeling disturbed. Extremely powerful.

I have trouble listening to this. [6] ...which is why I never turn it off when it comes on.

As heartbreaking as it is, it released me from the most horrible time I was in.

They should play this in every schooi to every impressionable adolescent boy. It'd probably cut down future rape rates by a half. (Or, at least, it'd just scare them shitless, which is fun.)

Such a beautiful song about such a horrible topic. Very few songs give me this affect, one of them is Billie Holiday's "Strange Fruit".
