I have just come across the studio version of this song for the first time in what has literally been almost a decade of listening to her music. I guess that's what I get for never listening to A Piano in full.

So fucking good live that it hurts. Or I started very early in my life with her and can't be more obsessed ;). There's that.

The live version is so much better than the studio version. The same for Sugar. These are her two best songs... if played live.

So gorgeously sad when she starts in on, "but... this is cooling... faster than i... can." Complemented so well by that repeating piano line.

The best song she ever wrote, along with Northern Lad and Winter. I cannot believe it never appeared as a studio version on a proper album. Fuck I wish she still wrote songs like this. I just watched the version from the Florida DVD and it's still one of the best things I've ever seen. I'm reduced to an embarrassing level of tears.

I love this song way more than I could ever describe. The melody, the lyrics, her voice. It all fits together perfectly.

This is my favourite Tori song. I've just seen that I wrote that last time. Either that or Northern Lad, or Putting The Damage On? Such choices

So then Love walked up to Like and said, "I know that you don't like me much. Let's go for a ride."

I haven't heard a version of this song I didn't like LOL One of Tori's all-time best songs ever

This is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard, but if I could only have one, I'd pick the studio version. It's like glass.

Given her comments about it on 'Venus', I didn't think there was a studio recording until I just discovered the Spark EP. Love the atmosphere - kind of makes me think of lovingly crafted wood, for some reason. As usual with Tori, I can't be sure what 'Cooling' is about, but I think the title is meant as in "I've cooled on that" - as some people are saying on SongMeanings.net it seems to be about an old relationship which has come to a more abrupt end than she was prepared for. Love the line "So then love walked up to like/ Said I know that you don't like me much".

I come back to this song everytime i'm happy, everytime i've had such a good day- i play it, and when i've had a bad day i play it to cheer me up. Whats funny, is i think Tori said something identical and i didn't understand it, and now it's happening to me. Cooling is simply amazing.

as for this vs. the live version from TVAB, I do prefer different key that it is in (on TVaB), but i miss the "woman you've got too many brambles" part in the live version.. It's one of my favorite parts outside of the obvious "is your place in heaven worth giving up these kisses?" line. As a whole this song melts even the coldest darkest parts of my heart! :)

the "is your place in heaven worth giving up these kisses?" bit gets me EVERY time. And no, nothing is worth giving up those kisses!

It's common belief that "Speed Racer" refes to a race driver that died suddenly in a crash around teh time of BFP, I think.
