This album has majesty and grace, and the lyrics (apart from some clunkers) are amazingly unified: there's references to fire and water and glass and constellations all through it. It's elemental and passionate like her earlier stuff but still very composed and polished like her later stuff. It's not perfect, but it's what I would expect from the woman who made Boys for Pele, at 48. It doesn't betray or dilute her legacy - not that I hated her 2000s output, but many of those albums are heavily edited on my itunes, and this is not.

WHY would ANYONE follow up a lovely left-of-field triumph like this with the new album Gold Dust? It's like taking the awesomeness of this and turning it into something crappy and sad. [2]

Relistening to this, and once again so pleasantly surprised. I love Tash's voice and I really freaking hope some of this is going into a college fund. I love the lyrics and the arrangements (I'm a total ho for double reeds!). ...My big question is WHY would ANYONE follow up a lovely left-of-field triumph like this with the new album Gold Dust? It's like taking the awesomeness of this and turning it into something crappy and sad.

Not once have I come across an album that has made me so utterly bitter towards another human being. Fuck you Tori, I don't need this kinda shit.

1) she's definitely developing and not repeating herself. 2) i liked the use of amplifiers and e-guitar on american doll posse, and i like this classical influence as well. 3) my favorite album is still by far her debut and all other albums were like repeating it, some better than the others... 4) on the last two albums she blossoms, finally trying new things. 5) great artistry, i can only compare her to sting. maybe they'll make an album together, that would be something huge : )

Really disappointed with this album. I'm begnning to think now that Tori may have peaked with Scarlet's Walk.

Universal, how come you had to mess up this with the "(instrumental)" thingy? Make a new one named "Sin Palabras" and leave the original Night of Hunters alone ..

Getting better and better with multiple listening, in a right type of atmosphere. Impressive soundscapes, beautiful piano play, Tori’s musical passion. As for Tash – sorry kid, you’re permaskipped, your mom’s voice and music is simply on a different dimension...
