É incrível como todo racista tenta demonizar o talento do negro mesmo depois de morto. Mais fácil acreditar que um ser mitológico e imaginário lhe deu poderes do que aceitar que a brilhante musica se construiu do talento inato dos escravizados. . .

@buttcoffee the character of Tommy Johnson in the film "O brother where art thou" is a reference to the real Tommy Johnson. Even the actor portraying him looks like him, the timeframe of the movie is correct (1930's), the location is correct (Mississippi) and the entire movie oozes delta blues.

I wonder whether he lent his name to the guitar player also named Tommy in the Coen Bros. "O Brother Where Are Thou" flick? In that movie, the guy also supposedly sold his soul to Old Scratch for his guitar ability. as was said about this man, whose ability, if anything, came courtesy of the Higher Team.

Look at that eerie stare. It tells you all you need to know about this music. On the strength of that handful of songs he has become one of my favourite musicians of all time, and certainly what I consider the epitome of amazing early blues.

The most innovative guitar playing I've ever heard in a bluesman. The tremolo picking, high-register vocals, and repetitive, trance-like quality of his stilted melodies almost seems to predate black metal by more than half a century.
