as far as American pop composers go it's this dude and Brian Wilson and that's pretty much it.

Bang The Drum All Day is an insanely and amazingly catchy song. No wonder why it's played in stadium and arenas. Yes, that's the only song I know by him.

Amazing show in Melbourne on the weekend. Setlist was heavy-handed on healing cuts and reminded me how great a song The Night The Carousel Burnt Down is - repeating it a lot atm

I honestly only recently remembered that I have his guitar pick somewhere from a Ringo Starr concert about twenty-five years ago. I also got to play the last chord of one of the songs (I wish for the life of me I could remember for sure which, but "I Saw the Light" or "Hello It's Me" are probably the safest bets). That might not even be the best part of the story, since I also got to sing one of the choruses of "Yellow Submarine". In other words, I can say I performed with a Beatle and technically be telling the truth. I haven't been to all that many live shows since then, because let's face it: nothing's ever actually going to top that, or probably even come close to matching it. I'd definitely go see Todd again, though, pretty much regardless of what songs were going to be on his setlist.

It's very odd that Pitchfork care about him all of a sudden, but if some people discover his genius through that site then it's good.

Who cares. Pitchfork has a cropped vision of music. They have proven many times that they are just pure opportunists so it shouldn't come as a surprise. I am so tired it's considered like the Bible of music. It just ain't.

Every time I see this shout, I cannot help thinking, "I will not buy this tobacconist; it is scratched." But you are absolutely correct.

I've loved it ever since first hearing it but now that I've really paid attention to "Sir Reality" I think it may be the absolute finest protest song anyone ever has written. It's certainly Todd's finest contribution to the genre, and it's also one of the most beautiful songs in his entire catalogue. I'm completely in awe of it.

Also, I'm going to second the recommendation for Healing. It might take several listens to sink in, which is honestly kind of unusual for Todd, but it's absolutely beautiful. It's pretty much what you get if you cross synth pop with progressive rock.

I really wish Liars weren't getting more relevant every year. Great album, but I doubt Todd had any idea when he wrote it how much worse the problems he highlighted would get.
