“Stars” is about a new relationship that is more dependent on love and romantic chemistry than sexual chemistry. While sex is important to the narrator and their lover, it’s not important if they don’t want to do it on the first date, because they expect the relationship to last long enough for it to happen eventually. The track is a stark contrast to “Basic Space”, which details two lovers who can’t get enough of each other sexually. It’s included on The xx’s self-titled debut.
