Just watched the performance of this from the new live set on Qello. Seeing the footage overwhelmed me just watching it on my computer screen, I can only imagine what I would have felt seeing it live.

I love how they mash three (at least i hear three) of the main themes at the end. It feels so epic.

The song has all the elements from the entire album ... It as if it was the beginning of the play and the performers were about to take the stage. A most excellent song showing the genius of Pete Townsend and the Who. By the way who was that guy playing the drum kit? Hahahaha

Frackin' awesome! I'll never get tired of this song.. And to add to it, listen to Helpless Dancer vocal version of one of the parts of The Rock "When a man is running from his boss Who hold a gun that fires "cost" And people die from being cold Or left alone because they're old And bombs are dropped on fighting cats And children's dreams are run with rats If you complain you disappear Just like the lesbians and queers No one can love without the grace Of some unseen and distant face And you get beaten up by blacks Who though they worked still got the sack And when your soul tells you to hide Your very right to die denied And in the battle on the streets You fight computers and receipts And when a man is trying to change But only causes further pain You realize that all along Something in us going wrong You stop dancing"

It's probably an ARP 2500 doing violin emulation (in a set of six to eight "strings") bowed using the ring modulator tracked to make it sound like 24 to 32 "violins".

Is that the same synth near the end from Wish you were here by Pink Floyd? Anyway awesome song indeed.
