The best version of Heroin ever recorded by the Velvets or Lou solo, this is also the version that ppears on Lou’s Rock and Roll Diary, a great collection of both group and solo work through the early 80’s. The extreme changes in the dynamics of the song during the second half are the most evocative of the highs and lows of the drug that Reed is so successful in portraying here. At times, you feel like the tempo simply can’t get any faster or more intense . . . then it does . . . then it brings you down again. Scary and classic.
