I'm a big fan of the Manics and the Stranglers, both bands had a big impact on me and Tolerate has nothing common with this one. All these claims from JJ and Co were senseless.

Unbelievable people can even compare the Manic's to The Stranglers. The Manic's aren't good enough to kiss their arses let alone steal their tunes.

This is one of my favourite Stranglers' songs, I just cannot imagine that anybody can like any manics song over this one.

The Stranglers are one of the greatest British bands of all time, and the Manic Street Preachers...aren't :-)

Listening to it right now and guess what? It sounds absolutely nothing like Tolerate! The Manics had to pay them $30,000 because their song has oh so slightly similar vocalisations, not even lyrics? James Dean Bradfield is quite obviously the better singer anyway so maybe The Stranglers might consider giving that money back! Oh and of course there will be the costs for wasting court time........................

MSP didn't rip them off as they don't own any Stranglers records so how could they? It was like when NME tried to say JDB was ripping off the riff for Have I Got News For You when he remixed that Regular Fries record. The bloke who wrote that riff just laughed about it. Think The Stranglers were just being a wee bit pompous and pathetic really. Tolerate is the better song so, hey ho!

It was settled out of court between the Stranglers publishers and Manic Street Preachers who agreed to pay a sum in the region of $30,000. Not as blatant a rip off as Elastica´s Waking Up was of No More Heroes, who apart from coughing up the dosh also had to credit the Stranglers as co-writers.
