In 2005, Francis Frenette and Steeve Marchand, friends since the age of 4, decided to form a music group upon their return from a trip to Europe. More than ever, this experience served as inspiration for achieving their dream.

Both grew up surrounded by music. Francis’ father is a guitarist and Steeve’s mother a piano teacher. The friends played with tribute groups during their teens and are now ready to create their own material.

While punk/rock is very popular in the region where they live, Francis and Steeve greatly prefer Britpop. The duo turned to their favourite group, Radiohead, for inspiration and material to play. Somewhat later, Steeve’s brother, Pierre-Luc, joined the group as drummer. At the time, the threesome was studying at the music school in Deschambault. They accumulated stage experience doing many gigs.

Francis has also composed his own music. He decided to show it to his two sidekicks in the fall of 2005. The group formed quite naturally, and they recorded a demo in the spring of 2006.

In May 2006, Julien Martel, guitarist from a family of musicians and friend of Steeve and Francis since early high school, joined the group, bringing more of a “rock” background with him. At the same time, Viviane Lavoie, a keyboard player with a classical background, also joined the group. The group was now complete.

Under the name of Pilot Project, the group staged some thirty shows in 2006-2007. Sylvain Gauvreau of Goego attended one such performance and immediately fell in love with the group. They signed with Goego in the winter of 2007.

The group no longer finds Pilot Project suitable as a name and is looking for a new one more representative of their music. Francis has always felt the need to compose in order to get rid of the blues through music.

In the fall of 2007, the name “The Spleen” was chosen and the group worked all year on an album under the supervision of Pierre Curadeau.
