Biography
The Southern Belle is a piano trio formed in 2022 by bassplayer Martin Höper. Martin Höper was born in 1978. His musical career began in Kalmar, Sweden, where he played electric bass with various rock groups. After switching to upright bass in high school and studying jazz music, he attended the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, studying under renowned bassists such as Palle Danielsson. He started his freelance career playing with groups like the Fredrik Norén Band, Rigmor Gustafsson, Gustav Lundgren Quartet, and Last Days Of April. With the electro-jazz group KOOP, he has toured Asia, North America, and Europe multiple times.
Currently, Martin performs with City Nights, Thus Owls, Rigmor Gustafsson, Peter Jöback, Claes Janson, Platina Jazz, Martin Höper Quartet featuring Jonas Östholm, Chris Montgomery, and Linus Lindblom, Carl Bagge Trio, and many others.
