I just listened again Millenium Done I: Empire Songs after many years and I remember why I was so obsessed with this album 10 years ago. I love them, no matter they are regarded as a copycat

When Club Labyrinth was still around in Detroit, there were rumours going around that The Merry Thoughts were actually Andrew Eldritch, in the studio, and the band mimed and lipsynced on stage. In all seriousness, though, I really wish everyone would reserve their accusations of "this sounds like Sisters of Mercy" for The Merry Thoughts, cos they're really the only band I know of that genuinely *does*.

It's all fine, but if your limits are defined by what someone else did at the start of their career, you'll never go beyond that. Lots of FALAA type stuff, but they'll never make a Floodland.

His voice is stronger than Eldritch's... But I guess if you're a bass-baritone and simultaneously a 'goth', then how else can you sing? Altho having said that tbf, why the named drum machine and the aesthetically sisterly image? One thing that is different though for sure though, Eldritch denies sisters were ever a goth band whereas TMT appear to like the fact that they were a goth band. Whatever. I love some of their songs, especially boy sinister and black day.

It is not fair to describe them merely as a copy of the Sisters of Mercy. [x2]

I think its really amusing how they sound undeniably almost exactly like the sisters of mercy and yet the sisters of mercy are not under similar artists. XD
