Think of this as an epilogue. "Last Dance" is the culmination of the album--everything they're doing converges into three minutes of bliss there--but you can't end an album on such a giddy, exhilarating high. You need a cooldown period--something to play the band off the stage, and to play you out the pub doors at the end of the night. So why not a not to the past, and to their source material. It also proves they could've played country relatively straight--something they'll definitively establish a couple albums later--if they had wanted to. But they didn't want that. The weirdo country-cum-post-punk of this album isn't a series of failed attempts to play straight country; it's a series of paths music didn't/doesn't go down, paths where country, roots rock, and (post-)punk meet. Fear and Whiskey is a series of lost highways, and now they acknowledge it.

haha! would be great for a road trip. not really definitive of their sound perhaps, but still a lot of fun. a good playful rendition of a classic tune.

Not their best song. Look for Heaven and Hell double-cd comp, "Me" CD, and anything by Jon Langford or Sally Tims too.
