For the longest time I saw this as kind of the bastard of their discography but when you come back to it with a fresh lens, honestly it's as good as the rest of their work for the most part. Really solid and underrated album.

I honestly like this album not as much as Deloused and Frances because nothing tops those two, but this is my 4th favourite mars Volta album, with bedlam taking third, this album is not as fast and 'energetic' as the others but hey being softer is not bad, if there was one thing bad about this album that I had to comment on is the length, yes I do know fifty minutes is pretty long but its their shortest album by 10 minutes, but I understand, sometimes its better to be shorter than longer. The album is very fun to listen to, a solid 8/10

This album grew on me a lot. Probably still my least favourite of their albums but that's not saying much given the high quality of their work. It does have by far the best production of any of their albums; it's the only one where the clipping doesn't sound like utter shit.

Has and always will be my favourite Mars Volta record, possibly one of my all time favourites. I totally get the hate though, it's pretty much how fans of a primary acoustic band would react if they suddenly made an album like De-Loused or Bedlam in Goliath. Just massive change that not everybody will appreciate. I'm just glad I can and so can others

This album is unlike all others and takes a while to get into it; most people will never like it. It is the most soft and dark, sounds like a gotic album in some moments. Even songs like "Teflon" lack the progressive approach of previous works, but also lack the strange sounds of "Noctourniquet". I remember Omar saying this is how they imagined an acoustic album. Is not supposed to be perceived as a Mars Volta album. They always tried to make something different, and only that should get some recognition. Is not easy and most artist don't even risk changing too much from album to album. I personally am not sure that I could compose a song like "Tarantism" and then "Copernicus", just saying.

This was a sort of a return to form after the dreadful Goliath, but it's nowhere near the level of the first three.

I'd heard this as my second TMV album after Bedlam in Goliath and as a result was very disappointed with it at first. I now love it, though.

Octahedron is like the Tourniquet Man of the TMV discography. it's short, nobody likes it, (nobody wants to admit it actually has its moments), and yeah

This album is really underrated considering it has some of the band's best songwriting unadulterated by excessive effects.

VV lol, pretentious bullshit below. I don't understand all the hate either. it certainly isn't their most daring effort, but fuck that ... it's great music nonetheless. love listening to this album on headphones at night. and no ... I certainly don't defend any ORL related release. for example I never cared for Amp ... and some of ORL's solo records are outright annoying in my books. Octa is a decent TMV album and a great record as such. suck it!

I don't understand the hate for this album. Since We've Been Wrong is a great song (when those drums kick in... wow), Teflon and Cotopaxi retain the pace and energy of the previous albums, Halo of Nembutals and With Twilight as My Guide are great as slower songs and Luciforms is a fucking epic closing track too. Give it another try people.
