Biography

Born and raised in New Orleans, Earl Scioneux III brings with him a range of skills and experience as rich and varied as the culture of his hometown. A trained pianist and graduate of the jazz program at NOCCA, Earl began his professional career in the role of musician. As his musical interests slowly shifted into the realm of the electronic, Scioneaux discovered more and more opportunities to learn the trades of engineering and sound production. After spending a few years in New York City where he alternately played keyboards in live drum and bass group Sol-i, worked for sound design company EastWest, and even tried his hand as a Wall Street day trader, Earl returned to New Orleans in 2001 to pursue the capturing of the beautiful music so unique to his own hometown.

Scioneaux has also made a name for himself in New Orleans’ small but dedicated electronic music scene, performing live as "The Madd Wikkid" at many large-scale raves and producing music that would ultimately be used in Smirnoff Twist promotions. In 2004 Earl reconnected with his NOCCA Instructor, Preservation Hall creative director Ben Jaffe, whom he would assist in the establishment of a project recording studio for Preservation Hall Recordings. Since then, Earl has had the opportunity to engineer the recording of four full-length albums for the newly-minted label, as well as record independent releases for such critically acclaimed local artists as Shannon Powell, Clint Maedgen, and The New Orleans Bingo! Show, the multi-media alt.cabaret performance troupe of which he is now a full-time member.

Presently, Earl has released a record dubbed "Electronola" that stems from an Idea he'd developed for nearly a decade and represents the amalgam of the two worlds in which he is steeped. By bringing a prime selection of New Orleans performers into the studio and manipulating those recordings with electronic music production techniques, Earl is brewing up a musical gumbo that's fresh and unique, yet at the same time delightfully familiar. Electronola is the first electronic music album with the classic flavor of New Orleans.
