A great album. Also a great cover. But. Some tracks are pretty average. Luckily there's some of the best Hendrix stuff here too. Such as 'Little Wing' with wonderfully poetic fanciful lyrics & liquid guitar. 'If 6 was 9' a great "fuck you" to the straights of the world with some great stratospheric guitar like a flaming 'Aurora Borealis'. The highlights tower over it's lowlights, I'm looking at you 'Ain't No Telling', so it may not be the best Experience LP but it's better than many other bands best. OK?

I don't get the people saying this is the "worst" Experience album. Of course when all three of your albums are brilliant and iconic it's kind of hard to pick a best or worst. Anyway, as everybody knows, this one's less about guitar heroics and more about Jimi's songwriting and lyrics, both of which are very good. Most "guitar god" types don't have a shred of the songwriting and lyrical acumen that Hendrix had.Just another reason Jimi is legendary.

I have always been blown away at how the JHE released three fantastic albums in such a short period of time. There are things about each record that I love and it's impossible to choose a favorite ..

Saying it's the 'worst' album is very relative though. The 'worst' Jimi is better than the 'best' of most artists.

I don't know why everyone says this is their worst album. This is easily their best. [2]

Disagree with LetsDrum: The original tapes for this album were lost and Hendrix had to quickly re-record them. Actually, the songs on this album displayed Jimi's songwriting skills and sense of humor as well as his Soul.

Dude this is like one of his best albums. Probably tied with Are You Experienced. No way i can pick between the two.

I never bonded with this album until very recently. I've always loved Are You Experienced? and Electric Ladyland, but this one never did it for me...until I found a used coipy of it on vinyl last weekend. This is really one of the most beautiful albums I've ever heard. The last minute and a half or so of 'Bold As Love' blew my brains out.

“Little Wing”, “Castle Made Of Sand”, “One Rainy Wish” e “Bold as Love” mostram o jovem mestre mais solto como guitarrista e compositor, encantando o mundo com lindas baladas. O blues psicodélico “If 6 Was 9” e a pesada “Spanish Castle Magic” temperam o álbum com bastante peso e vibração. “Axis: Bold as Love” é uma obra prima, e enquanto existir guitarra, será cultuado como peça quase que religiosa por todos os amantes do instrumento.

Funny (but true) tidbit about the album cover: Jimi told the artist that he wanted the artwork to reflect his INDIAN roots. Of course it turned out Jimi meant NATIVE AMERICAN roots, but the artist assumed he meant Indian - as in from INDIA - and so this was the result. Jimi was disappointed but due to the record company's rush to release the album, he was stuck with it. ...I guess the moral here is that sometimes it helps to be politicaly correct...sometimes. Of course back then most Americans used the term "Indian". I've never understood why. I mean, Christopher Columbus thought he landed in India and so he called the Native Americans "Indians", but you would think that once people realised this, that they would drop the Indian term....Well look at me. I'm ramblin' again. Catch ya later on down the trail...

Having not listened to it for a couple of months, I forgot how good this album was. It's surprising how many of the songs sound as if they were recorded today. IF this weren't regarded as one of the finest albums in history I think I would cry for the human race's poor judgement.
