Biography
The Hope County Choir is a fictional choir depicted in the videogame Far Cry 5, comprised of members of a Christian doomsday cult called Eden's Gate. They were portrayed primarily by members of the Bobby Shin Nashville Choir and are credited with approximately a third of the games' music, complimenting an original score by composer Dan Romer and reinterpretations by the post-rock band Hammock.
The Hope County Choir versions of the songs were arranged by Romer and audio designer Julien Renou under the musical direction of Bénédicte Ouimet. To give the songs that all-American feel, the team called upon an ensemble of professional singers from Nashville. The game's audio director Tony Gronick says of their work, “Early in production, these hymns, which developers casually sang around the office, were supposed to be bothersome to the player, and part of the gameplay would be to try and shut off the speakers, but when the Nashville choir interpreted these songs, they took on a whole new flavor and started telling a story.”
