Beauty and the Beat is the debut album by the American new wave band The Go-Go’s. It was released on July 8, 1981 via I.R.S. It was produced by Richard Gottehrer and Rob Freeman. The album contains the singles “We Got The Beat” and “Our Lips Are Sealed”, which both charted on the US Billboard Hot 100, as well as “Automatic”. The album hit number one in the US in March of 1982 and ranked second in Billboard’s year-end albums at the end of the year. With over two million copies sold in the US and over 100,000 copies sold in Canada, the album was certified double platinum by RIAA and platinum by CIRA, making Beauty and the Beat one of the most successful debut albums of all time.
