Love the digs at Ian McShane and U2, too. Nobody spews bile like MES. I always thought it was strange that this was hailed as a "comeback album" by some critics. "Comeback" from WHAT? Their last, uh... well, pretty much all LPs were good to great.

I've always felt that Infotainment Scan -> Cerebral Caustic was The Fall's worst stretch of albums but lately I'm really digging this one and Middle Class Revolt, so who knows? Despite all the lineup changes and all the speed and booze I don't think "they've" ever made a bad album.

Could be so. I remember reading that he likes having younger fans instead of a 'league of bald-headed men'. That wasn't quoted.

I love this one. "A Past Gone Mad" is fantastic. I don't know that MES was necessarily going after a younger audience, I think he just likes to experiment and confound expectations.

Not sure I like it too much. The first four songs are ace and Service and The League Of Bald-Headed Men are good outings but I don't much rate all the faffing about with the bubbling synths. But I guess it makes sense seeing as MES wanted to attract a younger audience.
