The guitar tone is so perfectly post-punk, the real star here though is the drumming

Original US issue all the way, because "Various Times" is the best song of that era.

The new Cherry Red reissue of this in Box Set form is amazing. Definitely worth buying for the remastered audio, bonus tracks, b-sides, live cuts, and the liner notes with archival photos printed on a nice thick card stock.

As catsup_plate said in his shout several years ago, the drum sound on this record is just incredible. So crisp and lively.

@precipitous Eh? "Various Times" isn't on Live at the Witch Trials. It is a great song, though. This is a great debut and finds the Fall pretty well fully formed although obviously a few of the key pieces for the "classic period" aren't in place yet (Steve Hanley and Craig Scanlon, namely). "Music Scene" is a definite indicator that these guys weren't your average "punk" band.

There never has been, and never will be a better Fall album than Live At The Witch Trials! Various Times is the best track they EVER made!
