Biography

Tasmania’s rusty fork in a puddle folk-punk, cow-punk, beer swilling, shanty singing, flannie-wearing, mohawk-bearing musical peasants. The Dead Maggies weave songs of tragic tales from Van Diemen’s Land’s dark and turbulent folklore and history – and then set them to fast, upbeat, toe-tapping, foot stomping, wild music that makes you dance, shout and folk till you punk.

The Dead Maggies normally include a banjo, a double bass, a guitar, a fiddle, a clarinet, some drums, keys and voices.

Since forming in April 2013 they have played with; The Real McKenzies (Canada), Paddy McHugh and the Goldminers (ex-Sydney City Trash), The Go Set, The Barons of Tang, The Crooked Fiddle Band and Lime & Steel.

They released there debut album ‘Sing about dead people‘ in November 2013 with a Tasmanian tour, and the CD was ‘Tasmanian Album of the Week’ on ABC Local radio (Tasmania, statewide), ‘Edge Radio Recommended’ (Hobart), and features two songs which are getting played on Triple J (national).

The Dead Maggies are from Hobart, Tasmania which is a place you can find on some maps.
