Always thought it was funny how similar Lovesong was to this - especially since this came out only two years prior.

althought there are some similiarities, lyrics are completely the opposite: How Beautiful You Are is based off Baudelaire's "Spleen of Paris"...Basically talks about a love which is about a make believe of feeling the same. Lovesong is about real love. :)

True. I just meant the melody is almost identical. But the lyrics are definitely opposite. Kind of ironic then

And this is why I hate you, & how I understand, that no one ever knows or loves another - or loves another... reminds me of an ex I used to listen to The Cure with, fuck I'll probably never get over her & it's been years already. At least I don't think about her so much I guess.

This song seems to capture a lot of people's memories, and so does it with mine.

This manages to be the saddest The Cure song I can think of. One of their best.

I'm surprised that almost no one knows these lyrics are an adaptation from a Baudelaire poem.

You want to know why I hate you. Well, I'll try and explain. We dreamed that dream to be two souls as one...I turned to look at you, to read my thoughts upon your face and gazed so deep into your eyes so beautiful and strange, until you spoke and showed me understanding is a dream. And this is why I hate you and why I understand that no one really knows or loves another
