Biography

Music is the brandy of the damned.
George Bernard Shaw

Basic info
The Brittnees are a rock band from Berlin, Germany the latest group of Rott and Jam, who are playing together for ages. The special thing about The Brittnees is that for the first time ever, Rott and Jam are playing a musical style that they really like: ROCK. This all started in 2006 with some rough songs by Rott, who does most of the song writing, completed with Jam's voice lines and lyrics.

The Music
It is rock with punk and hard rock influences, with a female contralto voice, haunting rhythm guitars, fine nuances to avoid getting bored, groovy, sometimes bombastic drumming, speedy guitar solos, and lyrics that are originated by improvising, dealing with personal and micro cosmos social issues.

Recording
The Brittnees are recording in their constantly expanding home studio that by now is surrounded by a nice they-don't-care-a-fuck-about-noise neighbourhood …

Song-writing
All songs are composed by Rott with a distorted guitar sound in ear-bleeding volume. He also plays the bass guitar, the (finger) drums, and everything else you hear on our tracks. Actually, he does everything from arrangement and editing to the final mix, except the voice lines and the singing.

Influences
The Brittnee's myspace site says "Everything not us", and this is exactly to the point.

Rott
Started with Rock & Punk in teenage days, played in a AC/DC cover band, then joined a Hard Rock band as lead guitarist, tried out if his nervous system could survive an 80's pop band, founded a Cross-over Hard Rock band, took Jazz guitar lessons and joined a psychedelic formation, where everybody played against everybody (following only one rule: no song-writing, everything has to be improvised, even on stage), at the same time. Next was a Pop band, followed by a House production, followed by an attempt to earn some money with German Schlager, interrupted by different experiments in the fields of Techno, Latin-American Rock, Soundtrack composing, then going back to Instrumental Hard Rock and guitar-heavy songs, that finally led to the foundation of The Brittnees.
Rott: "Everything becomes so easy, if you do what you really want to do: rock. Can't beat my nature."

Jam
Started as a singer of a jazz band in teenage years, although constantly trying not to sing like a jazz singer, joined a no-cock-allowed-female rock formation that had great favours for Dokken and 70's hard rock, and at the same time, became the singer of Rott's 80's pop band, exploring the limits of her voice in extend. After that, she convinced Rott to do a Pop band, followed by a House production, tried to earn some money with German Schlager, and after that, swore to herself never ever to sing again, except in the bathroom. This stupid, but understandable promise (if you have been into German Schlager before), was broken back in 2006 with founding The Brittnees.
Jam: "I can't stop wanting to make music, even if nobody wants to hear it - and F%©# German Schlager."

The Band name
You've probably already had your associations with their band name, and yes, you are right: The Brittnees is indeed named after Britney Spears. She is a perfect personification of everything the music business, and being an artist craving for recognition, paying back with self-exploitation, stands for, a rising star, mom's favourite little girl, the little Lolita, the self-destructiveness and depression that comes along when being just a well-marketed product with no personal direction allowed, the helpless attempts to break the rules by exposing herself even more, and the come back like an everlasting skipjack.

The idea to name a band using a girl's first name was also inspired by a little snobbish group of girls in the American animated television series Recess that called themselves The Ashleys and implied a right by name to be better than others.

Furthermore, the name The Brittnees also reflects their preference for Brit Pop/Rock.
