okay, okay: the beatles '65 mix managed to sell me on it. the insane cave reverb capitol records threw on everything really sells it as a kind of bug-eyed fever dream. but the UK single mix is maybe the sole embarrassment in their career

The song was Paul's attempt at imitating the vocal style of Little Richard. This is why the song is in such a high register, even for McCartney's tenor range. The lyrics "turn me on,", were as John Lennon was quoted saying, "so excited to say 'turn me on' — you know, about marijuana and all that... using it as an expression."
