"Penny Lane" was a single primarily written by Paul McCartney and credited to the Lennon-McCartney partnership. The songs title refers to a street in Liverpool, and the lyrics describe sights McCartney saw growing up in the town. The song was released in 1967 as a double A side single with "Strawberry Fields Forever". The song reached number 2 on the UK Singles Chart and number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Later in 1967 "Penny Lane" was included on the American version of the Magical Mystery Tour soundtrack album.
