I just love the image of Prince, a man who has never worked a day in an office in his life, deciding he's going to write a relatable pop song for this working class guitar band... There he is, sat in all his purple majesty at his grand piano in Paisley Park, thinking of an opening line that will be relatable to the masses who are late for work... And he comes up with: "Six o'clock already, I was just in the middle of a dream / I was kissing Valentino by a crystal-blue, Italian stream" Brilliant.

In 1986, Prince invited the little-known Bangles to record his song, "Manic Monday." It propelled the LA band to stardom, but it was only a stepping stone for guitarist, Susanna Hoffs, who, two years later, would write The Bangles' most enduring song, "Eternal Flame." Hoffs takes Songfacts behind the scenes of what was, in effect, The Bangles' epitaph - from writing the lyrics with Billy Steinberg, to recording them...in the nude! - http://www.songfacts.com/blog/playingmysong/susanna_hoffs_-_eternal_flame_/
