damon albarn saying luke haines "wasn't good-looking enough to articulate anything about britain" is so incredibly hilarious & its not even in the top 20 craziest things he's said

Very happy I picked it up. Baader-Meinoff wasn't so great, but I'm glad I got to hear it, and I was surprised how good Das Capitol was. For as complete as the collection is, I did notice one odd omission: the Cello Mix of "Bailed Out." You can only find it on Volume Five, in the legendary UK Volume Magazine series of comps. A shame, too, because that's the song that brought the Auteurs to my attention, roughly in parallel with me discovering Black Box Recorder.

Also, the mu-Ziq remixes were skipped over too. I don't know if it was rights issues or because Luke didn't like the remixes, but either way, one way the collection was just shy of fully complete.

He explains in the booklet that while he actually doesn't mind the mu-Ziq project, he felt it didn't fit the overall vibe of the box, and "you already 4 versions of 'Lenny Valentino'....you don't need three remixes as well." Good catch on the cello mix....I have most of the Volume editions, they were a great addendum to the whole scene. I'm guessing with all the bonus tracks on the New Wave disc, the disc itself was at capacity and couldn't hold more. Looking at the tracklist, I'd much rather have "She Might Take a Train" and the Rough Trade single, which I had no idea even existed.

After Murder Park needs a vinyl reissue. They all do. I've seen it going for over $700 on Ebay. Totally fucked.

"Now I'm a Cowboy"...a work of genius. The Auteurs & Suede were streets ahead of the "Britpop" pack, if we must use that awful term.

"Unfairly dismissed as the egotrip of acclaimed songwriter Luke Haines" !? That's the precise reason why I think they're great.

I got the book this morning and I'm throughly enjoying it. I'm in the office on my own, nothing much to do, so I'm having a nice day in front of a fan heater, listening to The Auteurs and reading.
