Your Majesty got better with age I'd have to say but I don't really listen to it that often. I just hated the abrupt shift in sound plus I was just a young lad when it came out who didn't like change :(

Lol at Jimmy Eat World being 'shitty' and not changing their sound.JEW had a nice, natural progression from their roots and these guys changed a lot in one album.

I was initially disappointed with Your Majesty, seeing as how awesome and unique Design of a Nervous Breakdown was (though I immediately fell in love with Sweet Marie). After many years later, I've learned to appreciate it on it's own merit.

Whoa man, I couldn't disagree with y'all more about Your Majesty -- that album is superb. It is, agreed, totally different from Designing a Nervous Breakdown, and initially I too was thrown for a loop. But unlike a lot of shitty bands (Jimmy Eat World or The Decemberists or you name it) that just retread the same crap from one album to the next, this is a band that wanted to keep growing -- and they did. Right from the opening drum line, Your Majesty is a superb rock-and-roll album that is tightly orchestrated, and their shows during that era were killer, too. For me, the difference was that I had to come to the album from a different mood. If you're in the mood for Designing, then no doubt YM ain't gonna cut it. But next time you're in the mood for some faintly retro-tinged rock (think, perhaps, The Strokes or The White Stripes, though I don't love those bands), give Your Majesty another chance. I think it's a crying shame they didn't hold it together long enough for a 3rd album.

Designing A Nervous Breakdown is their best, they lost everything that made them 'emo' and good with Your Majesty [2] You couldn't imagine how upset I was when Your Majesty came out cause I was so hyped on Designed and I then I play YM and I was like "what the fuck!? Are you fucking kidding me!" I got over it after a few years and it's aight but shit I was actually UPSET when that album came out, I guess I feel the same way today about Zoo by Ceremony, god that album sucks.

Unlike a lot of emo music (yep, I said it), Your Majesty has aged so well (even the album artwork). Perhaps that because it does not sound much like emo at all...

Maaan, I miss these guys. Emo? I guess you just get that tag for associating with The Getup Kids...

You are insane (or maybe just really OLD) if you prefer Your Majesty to Designing.[2]

shit man Designing has been one of my favorite albums since high school (and probably the only one I listen to still since then other than Through Being Cool). Great record, if you could somehow scrobble everytime I listened to them throughout my life... it'd be... a large number.

@xEvyn, Designing a Nervous Breakdown has quite the midwestern emo tinge to it... Your Majesty... not so much.

Oi, I'll jump on this bandwagon and pine for the loss of this great band, too. Not my all-time favorite band and yet there's is the only band sticker I've had on my car for about the last 10 years. They strike a certain chord like no other band, for me at least. Personally, I really like "Your Majesty", too, though I generally listen to each album in totally different moods. Reggie and the Full Effect has occasionally served as an ok supplement when I can't get enough of the glorious first album...but basically, they created space for a hunger that hasn't been sated since. And dammit, they were even great live. Humbug! :-/

I really miss bands like this. It's too bad they fell into the same trap that so many late 90's emo-indie-poppunk bands fell into. DANB is a fantastic album.

DANBD is such a great and distinctive sounding record. Great melodies all over the place!

They were really great live, I managed to see them only twice, though. One was a half empty show at the old Bottom Lounge on Belmont in Chicago. It is a great memory of a now broken up band at a now demolished venue. I feel old now.

I MISS this band. They were a favorite of mine. I know they were shunned more for their first full length, but DANBD was my favorite, by far.
