For a band with a clinically depressed front man, it means something to say this is their darkest album. Stylistically, I think it wounds like what would happen if Ray Davies wrote songs for the Velvet Underground. There are a lot of intimate and depressing scenes laid out in front of Tucker-ish drums and drony + jangling lofi guitar. Great sound to this album. But like a lot of their music, this is something that hits best when you're alone.

Eh, more VU, less Krautrock. But that's an apt description...at any rate, definitely an out-of-time album. It's brilliant, really.
