FanMail is the third studio album to released by TLC. The album was highly anticipated by fans. It was scheduled for November 10, 1998 but got pushed back 3 months because they wanted it to be fully ready. It was their follow up to the massively successful album CrazySexyCool, which was released in 1994. It debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 albums chart, with 318,000 copies sold and remained at #1 for 5 weeks. The album has since sold 6 million copies domestically and 11 million worldwide. It went platinum in Japan before going platinum in the U.S. Fanmail also went Platinum in The U.K. and sold over a million copies across Europe.

The album was very successful at the Grammies, receiving eight nominations. "No Scrubs" won Best R&B Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group and Best R&B Song and Fanmail won Best R&B Album.
