“Red Velvet Corridor” draws the listener in through swirling synth patterns, drones, tape loops and the twinkling of triangles, establishing the eerie and experimental themes of the entire album and especially the next track.
The color red is commonly associated with blood and danger, and the name of the track could be serving as a warning to the listener. Corridors also serve as entrances and passageways, which ties in with it being the first track of the album.
A red velvet corridor may be a metaphor for a birth canal that a child passes through in order to be born, with the album’s opening track signifying someone being born into the world. Fitting with the album’s title, a newborn child is blind until it exits the red velvet corridor that is its mother’s womb.
Its counterpart is the beginning of the second disc, “Red Velvet Wound.” These two songs sample each other.
