This was the first Suzanne Vega song I consciously heard, they used to play the video on MTV Europe all the time in 1992 and it grabbed me straight away. Such a palpable sense of loneliness to this song. Still gives me the goosebumps nearly 30 years later when she sings "and if he isn't, I certainly am".

What a wonderful tune! The lyrics remind me of The Hunchback of Notre-Dame story. *.*

Possibly my favorite track on an album where every track is completely brilliant. Just saw her live and she's still amazing.

The unplugged Close-Up version is heavenly in ways I never thought it could be.

You lie on the ground in somebody's arms you probably swallow some of their history...

@queerella I just saw Suzanne play this song live the other day and it certainly seemed as though she loves the song just as much as her fans do. She did an amazing rendition with just her acoustic guitar, her electric guitarist and her bassist. I certainly think this is one of her top 5 songs.

I heard her say in concert that this song is a sequel, so to speak, to Gypsy. The person she wrote Gypsy about was in Liverpool and she was there and the song came from that experience.
