as a guitarist, I marvel over the fingerstyle guitar techniques and tunings employed by MK, this album especially. He uses guitar tunings that employ simplistic chordings with complex fingerpicking patterns. akin to Nick Drake's guitar techniques but in another unique direction.

This album is a masterpiece and a high point in the SKM discography. But I could say the same about the debut album, I could say the same with "Benji".

I think that was intentional. I don't know if he ever confirmed it officially or anything, but I've heard it said that the thematic common threads between these songs is travel, whether literal or metaphorical, and transition. At least, that seems to be a likely reason for the particular Modest Mouse songs Mark Kozelek chose.

Why does this album break my heart, yet I love it so much? It's almost too hard to listen to, but so beautiful.

Isaac Brock should write lyrics for Mark Kozelek to sing... these songs succeed primarily because the lyrics are so good.

I like MoMo too and all, but a lot of the songs on here are better than the originals.

A lot of Modest Mouse fans seem to really dislike this album. When I first listened to it, I didn't know they were originally MM songs because I hadn't gotten into them yet. However, now that I listen to Modest Mouse a lot, I still love this album. I don't see them as covers.
