just can't get into these guys as much as I love Turner. I think he should do another Jodis album.

yh the songs just sound like a lot of random banging tbh. Also there is no reason to listen to Sumac if you like Old Man Gloom. Sumac is like the retarded slow brother of OMG

Old Man Gloom are about drone + post metal but imo they havent succeeded in combining those two, their attempts feel somewhat disjointed. Sumac did it better, also adding lots of improvisation music (collab with keiji haino should give you a hint about their inspiration). For me Sumac is the only post metal band that tries to do something new since Isis disband. Also new song is really cool

I don't really like completely amelodic music, so it's a personal taste thing. I know their drummer is amazing, but Sumac just feels like ear-rape, it doesn't take me anywhere or move me. Old Man Gloom I like but not love. I feel like Old Man Gloom has a little more "groove" than Sumac which makes it a little easier for me to connect to. Sumac kind of feels completely cerebral to me.

Two Beasts had me for a good 10 minutes, but then it kind of sputtered out towards the end.

may you be held - 8.5/10 their best release so far; meanders sonically sometimes and i do wish it was a bit longer but fantastic record nonetheless. contender for AOTY imho.

"The continued absence of SUMAC‘s new album May You Be Held on streaming service Spotify has been confirmed to be intentional". :(

I dunno, it's a different time-frame obviously but there is a chance that Sumac's contribution to music will eventually meet or even surpass that of Isis'.

Absolutely loving that new album! Feels like being crushed by a force of pure and heavy noise.

Listened to it today on the train. Really nice mix of sludge, noise, and psych.

The best drummer in whole post-metal/sudge/whatever/beard genre (sorry, Jason). Isis split-up was the best thing that could happen to Turner.

I don't know what I was expecting out of this, but it's way heavier than that. It's fucking amazing, though. Haven't even listened to the second album yet and I'm already prepared to say this almost makes me no longer care that Isis broke up.

I was upset that Isis broke up as well but if Aaron had spent all of his creative energy on Isis then we wouldn't have stuff like The Ape of God and What One Becomes. It helps that Nick Yacyshyn and Brian Cook are one of the best drum-bass combos in modern sludge.
