I'm not the world's biggest STP fan by any means, but I think they caught a lot of undeserved shit because they came to prominence in the wake of Nirvana and the whole "Grunge" explosion. It's not their fault the record label threw huge money at them in the hopes of finding "the next Nirvana," any more than it's Helmet's or any other band's fault that the same thing happened with them. I think STP started off as a pretty derivative and spotty band with Core and to a lesser extent Purple, but by the time of Tiny Music..., this one and Shangri-La Dee Da, they had found their own identity and become a pretty damn good band. I know a lot of people think they peaked with Core and Purple, but to my ears they got a lot more interesting after those albums when they started to incorporate Psychedelic Rock, Art Pop/Rock and other sounds and influences into their music. For Me No. 4 is probably their peak as songwriters and performers. A good, diverse Rock record much better than what most of

I know this isn't considered a classic like Core and Purple, but it's still my favorite, and in my opinion, their best work.
