While the album is not flawless (looking at you Happy Returns) or revolutionary , it is certainly one of the best works of Steven's solo career. I'd put it right after Raven (which is tighter and has a stronger impact) in terms of quality.

Meh. Absolutely nothing new under the sun here. It’s a rather weak effort, especially by SW’s standards. It’s just a parody of himself, his earlier solo work and PT’a innovations. I guess the people who consider it a masterpiece haven’t followed SW since the 90s and through to 2009, when SW should have focused on his stellar mixing career, without releasing this mediocre pretentious shit. The whole concept behind this is just bland, not to mention ugly artwork and a lame title… The songs just go nowhere! I’d rather you listened to Stupid Dream or at least In Absentia - they have much more to offer! I know that Steven is a great artist of our time, but this work just doesn’t deserve to be part of his discography.

Such a mature comment! FYI, I haven't scrobbled any music here since around 2015, so I'm using Last.fm as a source for looking out for new bands. And even considering that dredg is one of my favourite bands, I can state my opinion on other bands, can't I? By the way, I started listening to SW and PT in around 2000, I bought Lightbulb Sun on the day of its release, so I'm far from being an ignorant troll

Everyone can have their opinion but at some point it's just imbalanced and coming from some bias of personal identity or something. There are countless self-styled old timers who seem to have a gag reflex for SW's 'betrayal'. Calling HCE pretentious is just absurd.

This has gained renewed significance during this period in history, so much so my disappointment at it not breaking through into the mainstream has itself resurfaced. Not really so much for the idea that Steven’s talent is truly realized, but what the songs have to say to a world so divided and acidic, because of the newer walls of ignorance and isolation being constructed. The idea that he created something so personal and universal, from such a bleak muse, without any sense of a masculine overview, spoke deeper to me about the capacity for empathy he has not just as a songwriter but a person as well. He’s making pop music and gave his family dog an Instagram now, so maybe the things he experienced and is reflected here gave him a wider sense of the responsibility he has to himself to move forward as an artist and as a man. That much is just my opinion but overall it’s hard to avoid this in the eventual conversation about legacy and exactly where this stands among his greatest work.

I didn't think Steven could make album better than The Raven but I probably like this one even more :)

I honestly think this could be the best thing he's put out musically since "Fear of a Blank Planet". Definitely his best solo album.

I miss Gavin Harrison [2]. Yes. Also, fix your damn tags. There are no spaces after the periods. It's "Hand.Cannot.Erase," not "Hand. Cannot. Erase."

I genuinely think this may be his finest work, it's incredible and profoundly moving, especially considering it's subject matter. Amazing.

Holy shit, this album sucks. Nothing new here from SW solo career or with PT.

I guess I'm not sure why I didn't see it coming but this one has really grown on me. It is probably the most focused and tight work he has done in a long time and you can really hear a lot of sonic ideas he has been playing with for a while now, really gel and come into their own. Kinda just funkin' brilliant really.

@Cabrasevara If making stupid tags and comments make you happy, you can keep on doing that, I guess you have no better things to do other than that and congratulations on gaining some attention, keep wanking over places.
