"Kid Charlemagne" is a song by the rock group Steely Dan, which was released as a single from their 1976 album The Royal Scam. It is notable as a fusion of a funk rhythm and jazz harmonies with rock and roll instrumentals and lyrical style.
Classic mid-tempo jazz-rocker about a drug Chemist (modeled after Owsley Stanley) whose glory days have passed him by, apparently running a lab in some tenement. Listen for Larry Carlton's guitar as it gradually comes forward in the mix, slowly with fills and then breaks into a one of rock's most memorable solos. The guitar solo is ranked 88 on Guitar World's "100 Greatest Guitar Solos"
