Fortunately, I saw Stars Of the Lid a few years ago in Nottingham, UK. I actually spotted Brian in a pub before the show - but didn't want to disturb him. But afterward, I was lucky to be able to speak to him when he signed a CD. A very down to earth and engaging guy. I don't normally get much from live music (I've never quite known why) - but that night was an EXPERIENCE. Thank you, Brian. I have listened to Stars Of The Lid more than any other music for literally decades now. With more profoundness perhaps, I will continue to; hopefully for literally decades more.

I remember going to Brussel alone in a van just to assist one of the very last concert they made together. 2016 or something like that. It was in a very dark church. At the end of the event, Brian passed by me and I just noticed him when he was in front of me. It scared me so much, i was petrified. That's the amount of respect i have for him. His music will be listened for a long time.

What can I say that hasn't been already said by all the mourning fans here...SOTL, Brian created these timeless soundscapes that helped so many of us through isolation, tragedy, mental health issues and allowed us to stretch the better moments even longer. As for someone who never got to see him perform live I am heartbroken, I wish I had the chance to thank him for his contributions. Two musicians, experimenting, taking shrooms and watching Twin Peaks... sending each other tapes, each perfecting these loops and drones... I know Adam must be the saddest one of us all now. So, reach out to him and try to be there for him. We all owe him and Brian that much... Rest in peace, rest in these soundscapes that will surround our hearts and minds.

If I remember correctly, I came by SOTL through a name-drop in some interview. That was 2004, and I was instantly hooked, bought all the albums they had released up to that year. They became my introduction to the world of ambient drone. While venturing further into that rabbithole I quickly realized I'd already hit perfection - and stuck with them. Brian will be missed... his work is eternal.

RIP Brian McBride, the guy responsible for, in my opinion, one of the best electronic music (drone, ambient) ever made. It's really hard to find anything that beats their Stars of the Lid records, or Brian's solo works.

I just can't believe he passed away at such a young age. His music, as well as the duos', helped me through many many years. It will always hold a special place in my heart. Godspeed, you magnificent bastard.
