Biography

Spooks Illustrated is the name of a band that existed as an afternoon recording session in the Spring of 1999. The project consisted of Chris Rogers (aka Mordred Bathory) and Darcy Andrews (aka Azrael Abyss) from Corner Brook, Newfoundland, Canada.

The name Spooks Illustrated is a reference to a title of a magazine a character is reading during the introduction to the TV show "The Munsters".

The recording session resulted in three songs. The Oral Office (Version 3.2 Dirty Little Goth Boy Remix Featuring Special S.) was a cover of a Mr. Cock & Balls song titled "The Oral Office", to which Darcy Andrews was a member. Super Goth was a song written and performed by Chris Rogers as a parody of an acquaintance of his who happened to be "too goth for words". The most well-known song from that session was "Terrible Lie", an acoustic cover of a Nine Inch Nails song performed by Chris Rogers.

Not long after the songs were recorded, "Terrible Lie" made it way onto the internet through a circle of friends and eventually onto some P2P networks (most notably Napster at the time). As a result there were a lot of misconceptions and speculation regarding who actually recorded the cover, and searches for the song at one point would return results stating it was recorded by A Perfect Circle, Tool, Placebo and even Marilyn Manson.
