Biography

Atmospheric ambience with a groove backbone

Neil Butler has been experimenting with music technology since his early teens originally inspired by artists such as Ozric Tentacles, the Orb and Banco de Gaia and more latterly Shpongle and OTT. This has led to a slow evolution of the Spatialize sound which is starting to become highly distinctive, with people already commenting on "that sweet, organic Spatialize sound". Ambient and floating but also strong and sonic and highly influenced by Neil's frequent globe-trotting. Spatialize's first public outing was on the Future Music magazine CD and in 2000 Spatialize won the Sound-Sound Top Tape competition. A determined effort to improve the sounds and production then saw fruition in the 2004 release Dryad's Bubble which has been popular in chill-out rooms up and down the country.

Come 2006 and the slightly more rhythmic direction of "In the Midst of Myriads" has been influenced by the live gigs played over the last couple of years, supporting trance legends such as Eat Static, System 7, Zion Train and Astralasia in venues in the South West UK. "In the Midst…" was originally intended to be an album but having created the 6 tracks in one short period of time (a 6 weeks period after returning from Thailand) gave an extremely coherent feel, post-tropical, heady, exotic vibe that felt like it shouldn't be watered down and is now available as a 34 minute EP/mini album. A solid start for the new label Spiral Sounds.
