I'm never in a bad mood when I listen to Sparks, but on first impression, I thought this was a good album. The obvious highlights were the first three singles from this album, but aside from "It's Sunny Today," (which wasn't bad, I just didn't think too much of it) the entire album was a breeze to listen to. I especially love how, even in their old age, the Maels still have it. Ron still has a penchant for writing witty lyrics, as shown on "When You Leave" and "Take Me for a Ride," and Russell still has a talent for bringing these characters to life with his voice. I'm really trailing with disjointed thoughts, but I love how Sparks can still sound full of life half a century later. On an unrelated note, I absolutely loved what Ron did with the keyboards on "A Love Story." One final thought: the closer, "Gee, That Was Fun," did worry me a bit. On the one hand, it sounds like a typical Sparks closer, but on the other, I wonder if that's their own way of saying goodbye.
