I like their new stuff. Ritual, Archangel, Totem, Omen and Conquer are very interesting records. Their old stuff seems pretty boring to me.

Nah. Prophecy and some other older albuns are pretty good, but their newest ones are mostly ok/mid.

Max rides the coat tails of much better guitarists from Jairo T, Andreas Kisser, and Marc Rizzo. Without any of them, Max's music turns into instant shit because he's a shitty musicians. I mean, Cavalera Conspiracy had to rerecord Bestial Devastation & Morbid Visions out of desperation and being creatively bankrupt.

Actually thought the new album, "Totem" is some of the best shit they've done in years.

His stuff has aged really badly. And the new album really doesn't sweep anyone off their feet. Max Cavalera will always be the guy who sang with Sepultura until 25 years ago and then startet becomming musically irrelevant as Sepultura itself.

I love the Prophecy single but thought the record ain't too strong. I think this new one - whilst lacking a true single is overall more consistent.

Not their weakest album, but also not their best... The last 4 tracks are great, though.

It's a half decent record which is more then you could ever *reasonably* expect.

terribly boring album, culmination of the degradation of Cavalera & Co, or not yet and will the agony continue?

It leaked and as I imagined, an uninspired, bland, awful and boring album. You can tell Cavalera can't sing anymore and he is using more pro tools to make him sound like he is young, however it notices and the lyrics are very stupid, repetitive and uninspiring. The guitar is awful and sounds like a rookie is playing it, which makes you miss the sound Rizzo gave the band. A pitiful effort for a 4 outta 10 album.

Well... Cavalera's lyrics have always been more or less "stupid" and repetitive ;-) FIGHT THA REAL ENEMY!!11 :D

I imagined how Max screamed the word «war» and later started laughing out loud.

Give the session guitarist that wrote the album some credit. He probably wasn't paid well while having only a few weeks tops to write the album for Max the hack Cavalera. On top of that, he had to deal with Max and Max's one string guitar playing, so I would guess he played the guitars on the album as well. The only thing Max does in Soulfly is write the same old, repetitive shitty lyrics that sounds like an 8-year-old wrote them.

New song here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Xf5HDSqc-Y and yeah it's pretty bland, boring and meaningless, you can feel Rizzo's absence in this new and boring single. This band will take a huge L the upcoming years.

The world music influenced stuff are generally super strong efforts, but most of their metal is not really the best.

Panzerbabe@ i see you did the same thing. I made playlist consist of their instrumentals Soulfly I to Soulfly XI and it sounds amazingly cool, when they are put together. Peaceful, otherworldly, timeless. But honestly, on the actual records they sometimes sounds out of place.

Yeap, that's why I generally stick to Prophecy when not listening to the specific Soulfly tunes.

The band is going to take a fall now that Marc Rizzo is out of the band, such a shame because he made the band sound a lot better.

Not surprising after reading why he left. Max and his wife doing what they do best. Being self-centered and selfish douchebags, drama whores that screw other members over economically.

I don't recall Soulfly being nu metal ever to begin with, in fact, that music label is more of a social construct than anything else.

Liked their albums from "Prophecy" up to "Conquer" (plus, "Ritual" is also good). "Conquer", as for me, the best record they've done. After it... don't like, really. Some of their albums (prior to "Ritual") too boring, as for me. "Omen" was not that bad, but after — "Enslaved", "Savages" and "Archangel" — are not that interesting, for me they seem to be like "crisis works", like they ran out of ideas. "Ritual" is better than post-"Conquer" albums, though something's missing (tribal elements, probably?). I've always liked Soulfly for their blend of ethnic music and metal. I think, even the band was started pursuing this idea.

If you make a playlist of just their self-titled songs, you'd think you're listening to an album from an awesome tribal prog band, rather than a shitty nu-metal band.
