Intrigued by the combination of pop and chamber music, Soren Anders and The Staves started performing together in 2008. Indie-music.com called the Staves songs "Simple, yet intellectually challenging. Gloomy, yet beautiful. Artistically sophisticated, yet starkly presented…."
The Staves’ intricate arrangements and smart lyrics echo the lush chamber pop of Belle and Sebastian and The Decemberists. The extraordinary and virtuosic ways in which string instruments are used is an essential component of the Staves' music.
