Honestly I grieve for what could have been. All these albums with wasted potential. I understand bands evolve and change all the time, but it's honestly so jarring to go from "An Elixir to Existence to "Nine Destinies and a Downfall". Imo Sirenia has been going nowhere but downhill after "An Elixir for Existence." I hate their poppish, clean, radio-friendly sound. What a fucking shame because their two first albums were literal masterpieces.

I highly enjoy 1977 but I must say often when I thought they are playing a good bridge it was the outro of the song. A bit short songs that cut off. The chorus and melody writing however is solid. 4/5

I have just finished my first spin of 1977 and I'd be lying if I said I recall even just one second of it. Nothing stood out, except for the cover song, which is tacky beyond words. I guess the title being Morten's birth year makes him the Taylor Swift of metal, though?

Aylin still the best vocalist in my vision, but I kinda like the new materials, not a big fan tho.

Infelizmente o último álbum realmente bom deles foi o Perils of the Deep Blue que é excelente. Depois disso, consigo curtir apenas o Arcane Astral Aeons com ressalvas. Os demais são esqueciveis ou fracos. Uma pena.

1977 sounds like abba metal, which is not bad or good and it's certainly new for them, i listened to it with an open mind again but nothing really stood out that much or hook me, it was just forgettable, Sirenia hasn´t really fully nailed that catchy pop strutured oriented sound like they did in Nine Destinies, and they're also not doing that intricate songwriting and aggressive style they had in At Sixes and Sevens or even more recently in The Seventh Life Path, they´re either in that unsatisfactory in-between space or doing pop infused stuff that is not so good and it's frustrating... i think the best song it's deadlight however i think they abused a bit the chorus repetition. but i guess it makes sense cause it's got the best and more memorable melody out this album.

Wow i wasn't aware NDAAD gets so little appreciation, it's truly a magnificent album, the pop structured songs in the form of symphonic goth metal are so tastefully done, the melodies unparalleled, and it has other edgier interesting gems in it like "Sundown" and "Seven Keys And Nine Doors", i was entranced by it for a long time, it also holds a very special place in my heart because it was the album that ignited my love for music in general and introduced me to metal when i was a pre-teen. Their most recent releases returning to their more pop sound are just lacking in comparison, and it just doesn't have the same magic sadly.

It's always been my top played Sirenia album by a wide margin (and Seven Keys my top track), a fact which used to elicit an "Oh dear" at best from most people :D I guess it could be called a "cult classic" within the subgenre, at this point. The art of crafting a good catchy pop song has always been particularly underappreciated in metal culture, where it's often seen as nothing more than a quick and easy way to shoot for mass appeal, rather than its own discipline with its own requirements.

Oh yeah i see people getting that reaction, i don't engage a lot in metal circles, so i'm quite isolated from it now, but it's certainly a cult classic, at least in my eyes, and i don't think we're alone. Exactly, what does it for me is the art of crafting a good catchy pop song which at the same time manages to create and atmosphere that entrances you and has an interesting concept, that is NDAAD for me, and i agree with this sentiment too, you can make something as equally artistic in metal or any alternative genre that has more availability to it musically, it's just its own artform.

Main problem I have is the album feels quite samey. Lacks variation in vocals and delivery. Doesn't help when four songs in a row have choruses that start with the following: 'I feel the darkness setting in', 'I can feel a thousand scars', 'I can't feel no love for this life no more', 'I feel so dead inside'. I really thought they'd pick up on that repetition during writing, guess not.

1977 - the same old for Sirenia. Nothing mindblowing. Some of the synths are a bit too dominant and many of the songs have Emma singing in the same old way, but at least she's not rhyming fire with desire anymore. It's better mixed than RRR. Shame about the absence of choirs but Morten needs money so he's had to make a few cuts somewhere. Morten's harsh vocals appear on one track only which was a big disappointment. His cleans appear on one track and it's more like 'speak-singing' than actual singing. Still, thanks to a better mix and fewer lowpoints, 1977 is better than RRR.

Gotta say, 3xR isn't a bad album after all. Perhaps it would have been more interesting some ten years ago, when the whole metal-meet-1980s-synthpop hadn't been done to death yet, but it still sounds like its own thing compared to similar hybrids, still distinctly Sirenia. I think it achieved what Nine Destinies and especially The Enigma Of Life failed to sound like.

hi, thank you, i just listened to it, is not as bad as i thought it would be, however, i found some choruses and melodies annoying, too saccharine & happy for me, some others are great and i really enjoy them, a few greats elements & arrangements here and there, but there wasn't a definitive song i loved entirely, Passing Seasong, downward spiral and The Timeless Waning are good tho. I miss the dark evil atmospheric sentiment they left in The Seventh Life Path and their early work. Overall a pretty meh album tbh...

It's okay. Production is still pretty muddy though. What happened here? Why did they not work with Jacob Hansen again? The album has a pretty dance-y feel to the album, and the album has a strong synth/electronic vibe (especially Beneath the Midnight Sun). 80s synthpop. There are some songs that feature brief passages of a fake choir (it doesn't sound like their usual choir anyway or maybe that's just the poor mix). Morten still sounds fine, and Emma sounds great. She is the highlight. It's not a terrible album by any means, but I do feel it's a step down from their previous albums. It's certainly not a symphonic metal one, but some of the songs are pretty catchy. I thought the album sounded quite happy and energetic (because it's so dance-y) which makes the lyrical content sound a bit odd (for example "the demons inside, were buried alive, alongside you and I" to a happy synth beat sounds funny). Overall, not great, but not terrible either.

Not what I'm accustomed to hearing from Sirenia, and I don't think it really fits them. But each to their own.

absolutely no haha, upbeat rhythms like this are not in goth music outside metal, goth music may be dance-y but has a dirty industrial or darkwave-ish sentiment, dark synths and gloomy atmospheres too, often with melodies in minor keys that convey sadness & creepiness,it isn't anything like this. Blutengel it's not the better example for goth music, and still they're not this saccharine always. As she said is more closed to 80's & 90's synthpop and modern electronic elements.

Of course they are, lots of classic goth rock is intentionaly campy and borderline silly, the fad on sadness pretty much became commonplace in the 90's with gothic metal (which grew out of doom metal). Heck even goddamn Fields of the Nephilim had upbeat songs (Preacher Man anyone?... Which is a goth rock classic?...). No, Blutengel is a perfect example for goth music as is any other band that plays any offshot of goth. And Blutengel is dozens more "saccharine" than the new Sirenia album, half of their damn discography is dancefloor-friendly.

Well, I don't think the new album's bad. There are some pretty nice solos and as someone else said, the choirs and synths are good most of the time. Still, the other two Emmanuelle-fronted albums are better and yeah, the production is complete ass.

The new album is stupid fun, I legit enjoy it, the amount of synths and overall vibe remind me of some of their older works. However, the choruses tend to be overblown and too loud when compared to the rest of the songs; sometimes the melodies aren't strong enough to carry them. Surprisingly, the best parts of the songs are often the verses, bridges or intros where there's layers of synths, goth choirs and beats, I really wish the album would sound more like those parts rather than the noisy choruses.

Maybe someday, Sirenia will put out an album without a song that rhymes "fire" and "desire". Clearly, that's not happening this time, but y'know... eventually, it might happen. Also, I have absolutely no idea what to think of this new song, if I'm being honest.

Hey, don't forget "higher" too! :p As for the new song, the production sounds off to me. Morten mixed/mastered this album himself according to Bandcamp, unlike the last couple of albums that Jacob Hansen produced, so that's a bit of a shame.

this time is the whole package, bad production, bad songwritting and 0 creativity, it sound like a recycled mixture of the weakest songs from the two previous albums. besides i listened to it on spotify first and there it sound low and weaker for some reason, i was shocked from the awfulness. it's so dissapointing, i was pretty excited because i loved the cover artwork and it feels like a continuation to the seventh life path in so many ways, from autumn to winter , from anonymity to face revealed etc, and i just thought musically it would be the same, so sad.

Amazing band with a great front woman, who happens to have a background in French Opera! Great Gothic/Symphonic Metal atmosphere! I recommend the song "In Styx Embrace" to start.
