Biography
Simon Lovermann (née Karlstetter), is an artist, musician and cultural entrepreneur. For the past decade, he has created compositions for dance pieces, collaborating with choreographer Dustin Klein and some of the world’s most distinguished dancers of our time. Simon is now embarking on a new chapter in his career with the release of his debut solo album.
Simon is mostly known as the founder and artistic director of the internationally renowned organisation for contemporary photography »DER GREIF«. The organisation is dedicated to researching subjects the affecting the production, distribution, presentation and perception of photographic images – in print, on screens as well as in exhibitions. Der Greif collaborates with and publishes the works of artists, curators and writers, including Sylvie Fleury, Broomberg & Chanarin, Alessia Glaviano and Carrie Mae Weems. The organization organizes events and exhibitions with renowned institutions such as the Aperture Foundation, Paris Photo, C/O Berlin and Fotomuseum Winterthur.
Simon’s research and practice is circling around topics such as a shifting perception of authorship, de- and recontextualization of images, appropriation, artistic approaches to photographic archives as well as remix and sampling as forms of art. He is using photography, drawing, manual printing-techniques, performance, music and sound in his works.
Simon is giving lectures and talks about his work at events around the world, as well as workshops at internationally renowned universities and institutions, including Aperture Foundation, ÉCAL, LCC London, Rodchenko School Moscow, Origen Festival and more.
Simon is co-founder of the interdisciplinary artist-collective »STUDIO FURIO«, that unites dance, theatre, music and media art.
Simon is also co-founder of »PICTER« a software startup building the future of visual communication and collaboration.
