Biography
From the beginning, Signet Mae wanted to write great songs with a soulful honesty that also reflected a genuine artistic passion. A passion to explore songs rich in atmospheric sound scapes that combine beautiful melodies with lyrical sincerity.
Nathan Russo, Ryan Belfield, Luke Sheldon, Adam Corcoran and Danny Batelic all grew up in different suburbs of Victoria, Australia and each of them point to significant early musical discoveries as life altering moments. This musical connection provided an outlet for creativity and an escape route from the mundane reality of suburban existence.
Nathan and Ryan met through friends and soon discovered they both shared a love of melodic, emotive and atmospheric music. After hearing Nathan sing on an old song he wrote called ‘Look Around’, Ryan was convinced that he wanted to work with a singer that could bring this kind of emotion out of his material. Their initial collaborations were promising and inspired them to expand their project further.
Luke had previously played with Nathan and Ryan in other different musical projects and felt a connection with their new direction - his addition to the line-up was a natural progression. Ryan soon got into contact with Danny, a drummer who he had also played with in the past. After hearing some early demo material, Danny was very keen to help provide the rhythmic foundation of the band and be part of its development. Not long after, Nathan met Adam through work and, after hearing some early demos Adam (a guitarist and pianist) offered to take up the bass simply to be able to be a part of the band. He has since developed a genuine love and talent for the instrument and his skills as a graphic designer have been integral to the band’s overall artwork and visual style.
Adam’s inclusion into the band completed the line-up and enabled the band to intensify their efforts. They began rehearsing and writing material on a regular basis.
Since hitting the live circuit last year, Signet Mae has built a reputation for energetic and memorable live performances. The band has risen through the ranks at a frenetic pace; already headlining their own shows in Melbourne’s larger venues to an ever-growing audience.
Signet Mae has now finally emerged from the cavernous realm of the studio with dark rings under their eyes and 5 tracks that mark the introduction of the band to the world. Recorded at Sing Sing Studios and Bloohaus Audio in Melbourne, Australia, the Concrete Ghosts EP will be the first tangible offering from Signet Mae for you to enjoy.
