"If It Makes You Happy" is a lead single off Sheryl Crow's second studio album, "Sheryl Crow" (1996). Written in collaboration with Jeff Trott, Trott said, "If It Makes You Happy was written before I met Sheryl Crow. I was originally going to use it on what would have become my first solo album. But Sheryl liked it and used it.". The track helped win Crow "Best Female Rock Vocal Performance" at the 1997 Grammy Awards, and it peaked at #10 on the US Billboard charts. On Crow's VH1 Storytellers appearance in 1998, she said the track was initially a Country song, but she turned it into a rock song so she could get more exposure.
