It's really kinda sadening how both Andreas and Max couldn't reach to an agreement. Now, the band is ending and they can't even do some work together just to say goodbye. Sepultura is and always will be the biggest band hailing from Brazil, but still it feels like a bittersweet ending.

I think that this end of activity is a farewell tour for the current line-up. In 2026, it will be 30 years since the release of Roots and at the same time 30 years since Max's departure, so it is possible that they will return with the classic lineup to the tour they interrupted 30 years ago, we will see in 2 years.

What do you mean do work together? All Max did in Sepultura was basically sing. He didn't contribute much musically and only wrote some of the lyrics. His biggest contribution musically was on the Roots album where he wrote a few tunes. The tunes where Max wrote the lyrics are the ones that repeat the same line like 5 times. Max has a limited vocabulary in both Portuguese and English. Other than that, it was Andreas that wrote the music and lyrics. Before Andreas it was Jairo T.. Igor obviously contributed to the song writing process with the drums. Max has rode the coattails of better musicians his entire career. So, I don't see how Andreas coming to some sort of agreement with Max would be beneficial to Andreas and worth the nightmare of trying to deal with Max and Gloria. All of Max's ex-bandmates describe him as a whiny and self-centered man child that can barely play his 3-string guitar.

What I meant by "working together" in something new is just to settle everything together and end everything without any fights. Also, Andreas has tried many times to approach Max. They were friends after all, not just bandmates Thing is, Max did influenced a lot of Sepultura sound from Bestial Devastation to Roots. Beneath and Arise for instance is a blend of Max Hardcore influences and Andreas NWOBHM, this is what made sepultura so different

Quem viu sabe.

ending such a legacy with a proper closure at the right time is a huge privilege, one that Sepultura deserves. being a extreme metal band outside of the US-Europe and having such an influence on the modern metal landscape is something for the music history books. as much as I love the band, I'm really glad for how they chose to end their career. they could for the money-grabbing mediocre reunion tours and the never-ending recycle of their classic albums (god knows Max wanted to), but always chose the most daring path, to look forward and move on. forever legends

Amazing live band but it was their time. Thank you for the great concerts and legendary fucking tracks and albums. Wish you all great success in your future projects and hope the Cavaleras find peace with Andreas and Paulo.

People need to shut up on whether if Chaos A.D. or Roots was good or not and fight the real enemy, Against and Nation

Some fans hate on most of Sepultura's discography. There are those who say that their last good album was Beneath The Remains and that Arise was a sellout album. Some say that about Chaos A.D. album and some others hate Roots and everything that came after. So they might as well hate on everything after their first if they want to be such pretentious purists.

I dunno about "selling out" but I've never been much of a fan of Groove Metal so I wasn't into them moving away from thrash. A lot of metal bands either went groove or some sort of hard rock / metal hybrid in the mid nineties, and I don't really think its aged that well compared to their glory days, Sepultura is one of those bands to me.

Calling bands or artists in general a "sellout" has always been a popular way of gatekeeping. Some incels with no social life look down on new, younger fans of a band. In fact, they just want it to be about themselves. "Look at me! Instead of you chart kids, normies, and soy boys, I was there right from the beginning. I liked them when they didn't have instruments yet and had to play air guitar. Their only good material is the one that sounds like someone farted into an empty watering can. I am old school. Unlike you posers. It's my band, go away!" Something along those lines.

I hope Sepultura and Cavaleras do a big ass reunion just like Helloween. Unfortunately that will probably never happen as some egos are just too massive.

Are you a big fan of the way Max sings and some of the lyrics? Outside of singing and writing some of the lyrics, Max didn't contribute anything musically in Sepultura. So I assume you like the way he sings.

Over 400,000 Roots listeners, and less than 150,000 on Beneath and Schizophrenia... Get off the "superficiality" of popular albums and listen to the discography from the fucking beginning

I agree with you, but each to their own in the end. I checked out from this band when 'Nation' came out. I still listen to the first 5 albums the most, and have a soft spot for 'Against'. 'Roots' was just an attempt to jump on the Nu-metal gravy train at the time. It has its moments, but it's a really bloated album - and far from their best.

Perfect description of Roots I've read in this shoutbox that isn't just "Roots sucks it's the worst metal album ever!!!"

Same as listening to kill 'em all then to the black album, but one must understand there are several years in between...
